About Me

Software Engineer with 3+ years of experience

Hi everyone, my name is Jonnatan, my friends call me Jon. I was born in El Salvador where I grew up for the first half of my life. When I was 13 years old, I immigrated to the United States with hopes of pursuing a better life while escaping the dangerous and violent environment my country was experiencing at the time.

Coming to a new country, not knowing the native language, and being exposed to a new culture was a challenge, but I also saw it as an opportunity and an adventure. I was committed to not only completing but also excelling in my education in order to attend a four-year university. In 2017 I graduated from UCI with a bachelor's degree in Business and Economics and a minor in Management. Before graduating, I took a few computer science classes which is where my interest in software began to form.

After graduation, I worked full-time as a claims and data analyst for a small company in Southern California. In 2018, I decided to take a risk and make a major career switch. I enrolled in a very competitive coding boot camp called App Academy and spent several months learning the ins and outs of software engineering. In 2019 I landed my first job as a Full Stack software engineer at a very small start-up in San Francisco. This role would be the first of my two experiences working as a developer for a start-up. I was committed to further challenging myself and growing as a professional. In 2021, I took it upon myself to take the next step and try to get into what at the time was FAANG.

After months of studying and preparing, I got my shot to interview for Meta (at the time Facebook) for a mid-level software engineer position. I received a full-time offer, and in October of that same year, I joined the Biz Growth Org within Facebook. I was part of the team responsible for driving the major migration from Pages to the new Pages experience. This exposed me to different types of projects, such as conducting internal experiments and analyses as part of investigations to mitigate top business metric regressions. Additionally, I worked on closing feature parity gaps and building new end-user and enterprise client-facing features. All of this while building at a 2 billion user scale.

This past January, my role was affected by the mass layoffs at Meta. This has allowed me to go back on the job market and look for new and exciting opportunities. Below are some of the main technologies I have worked with, and I am looking to continue working with them to keep sharpening my skill set.
